There are a few items to talk about this week.
Group classes As you likely recall - it's the new cycle in group class. The dances this time are:
Tina Turner Tribute This Saturday at the Dutch Club the Motown Band will be honouring Tina Turner. It will be a good night, like all the nights we have been to at the Dutch Club. Let me know if you will come so we can organize a table. You can see more details here - https://www.facebook.com/events/967893071000997. Burn the Floor You might have heard of Burn the Floor. It is a ballroom dance company that infuses other styles into ballroom. They have a show on at the moment at the Palms - https://www.ticketmaster.com.au/artist/803589#about. If you would like to come along with a group from Destine Dance, then join the conversation in the Facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/DestineDance/posts/2172376036301661) so we can get organized this week - for this Sunday. Awards The next awards are on Sep 6. Save the date - we will make a night out of it for everyone - even if you are not going for an award. The awards are ideal for ensuring progressions as well - nothing like a deadline to get you focused so you learn faster. Talk to your private teacher if you have not yet locked in what you will be going for. See you on the dance floor Clint

First off, let's talk about group classes.
This week is the 5th week of the current cycle. We will be doing:
Now let's talk socials. There are two events on this weekend, but at class this week we decided one should get primary attention. Therefore, I will guarantee that I will be heading off to this event on the Saturday: https://www.facebook.com/events/1241473833161635. There is also an event on the Sunday, that I might go to, but would encourage you to go to if you wish to scratch that dance itch: https://www.facebook.com/events/1206093833403924. Finally, I want your ideas. I was contacted by the local member about government grants in the creative space for organisations like Destine Dance. The basic information is here - https://creative.vic.gov.au/funding-opportunities/find-a-funding-opportunity/creative-ventures-program. I have talked to the staff about ideas, but I am also keen to hear from you. If you have any idea on the kinds of things that could be done in dance, then let me know your thoughts. Please also share this link with others who you think might benefit from it. See you on the dance floor Clint It has been a little while since we have been out social dancing. Which is a shame because we are getting a good group each time we go out. These jaunts are a great part of my social life and a fun outliet - I am sure they are for you too..
The good news is, there are more events coming up. But before I talk about that, let's recap the group classes this week: • Monday 7:30pm Street Latin - Argentine Tango (the soulful classic) • Tuesday 6:30pm Latin American - Rumba (the most romantic of dances) • Wednesday 7:30pm Swing and R'n'R - Rock and Roll (the rebel dance) • Thursday 6:30pm Ballroom - Quickstep (the swingingest of ballroom) Note that this is the second week of the current 6 week cycle. So you can still jump in if you missed last week with little issue. And if you started last week, then keep at it so you get the full benefit of following the full cycle. Now back to the social stuff. S&P promotions are still running gigs at Carnegie. Some events coming up are: • Staring The Retro Stars on July 15th • Motown honours Tina Turner July 29th • Van Morrison wild night on August 19th They are a little while off yet, but by simply reading the theme for each you can tell these will be good nights. Like all the others we have been to. I will also let you know if any other events get organized. See you on the dance floor Clint This is the last week of the current 6 week cycle.
The group classes this week are: • Monday 7:30pm Street Latin - Bachata (the ne sensual kid on the block) • Tuesday 6:30pm Latin American - Cha cha (the fun and universal dance) • Wednesday 7:30pm Swing and R'n'R - Lindy Hop (the classic of swing) • Thursday 6:30pm Ballroom - slow Foxtrot (the most refined of dances) Next week the group classes will be: • Monday 7:30pm Street Latin - Argentine Tango (the classic) • Tuesday 6:30pm Latin American - Rumba (the most romantic of dances) • Wednesday 7:30pm Swing and R'n'R - Rock and Roll (the rebel dance) • Thursday 6:30pm Ballroom - Quickstep (the swingingest of ballroom) So if you have missed group classes for a bit, then next week is the ideal time to jump back in. If you have been coming to group classes of late, then this week will be the peak where you get the most out of your steady contribution to your dance skill development. But before you get too excited about the new group classes, make sure you a free this Sunday for a live band event at the venue. The party animals are back! https://www.facebook.com/functionseventsepsc/posts/pfbid02wn5nLo1JQRDv9johJ8RQ1AuLDeHDbu1RJqB4hNGBJqr9tA7VZvUs9Jpruc2VvUTAl I will be there so you should be too. As I always say - it's a great way to see the weekend out. Even though it's a long weekend this time - that just means you party harder with the Part Animals. See you on the dancefloor Clint I have a bit to thank you for so please read on to feel appreciated.
Last week we had great turnouts at the group classes and we had one of the biggest turnouts yesterday with the live band event. I am very pleased to see this happen. The major goal for me when I started Destine Dance was to show people how dance can be a great part of their social life – more than just a hobby. So thanks for everyone who came and I look forward to seeing more of you next time. Speaking of group classes, this is week 3 of the current cycle. So if you have been going to these classes, then now is the time to make sure you keep on going so you get the full benefit of what you have learned and developed thus far. As a reminder, the classes we are doing are:
Another pleasing event this week was our reviews on Google. We surpassed 70 5-Star reviews. That’s more than anyone else teaching similar dance in the state! I think this reflects the efforts to make Destine Dance a place that helps people get the most out of dance and the great people who work here – I always say I only employ good people. But it is you that gives us those 5-Star reviews so thanks for taking the time to do that. If you have not reviewed, then you can do so here - https://g.page/r/Cd34izcvQlAEEAI/review. If, however, you do not feel you are getting 5-Star service, then please drop me a line to talk about it. I am always open to talking about ways to be better – and I always appreciate you taking the time to let me know. In return, I will always let you know how I will take your advice on board. Now that I have buttered you up, two favours to ask:
See you on the dance floor Clint GROUP CLASSES
We start new dances in the group class this week:
This is the start of the next cycle so if you want to get in when it is focused on beginners, then now's your chance. SOCIAL EVENT Remember the social this Saturday - www.facebook.com/events/774881707568148. It is disco so always good to dance to - be it swing or Latin. Let me know if you are coming so I can organize a table for us all. PHOTO OPPORTUNITY I have been contact by a photographer who wants to take photos of dancers. His contact details are below:
He is a student at Photography Studies College (PSC). As a part of the course, he is currently working on a portfolio and looking for models to photograph for a ballroom dance themed shoot. He is looking for mature age students or late high school at the youngest. As a thankyou for having you model for him - he is happy to provide a set of high res digital files complimentary. The objective of the shoot is to capture the essence of dance and movement through a range of photographic techniques which will be incorporated into the shoot. If you like the idea of posing for a photo and getting a record of your efforts, then drop him a line. See you on the dance floor Clint This is the last week of the current round of dances in group class:
Also, remember the disco social coming up in a couple of weeks - www.facebook.com/events/774881707568148. This might be the last such event for a while so make sure you get to this one. We will of course always look for events in the area so you can use what you learn to dance socially and have a good time. Let me know if you want to come. Disco always seems a bit better than the other nights - likely because it is music to dance to and the various styles that suit it. See you on the dance floor Clint First off classes this week:
Do you have friends wanting to dance? We will be starting another 4-week program then too. Please tell anyone you know who has been thinking about learning dance. Awards This week we will be finalising the details for the next awards – your teacher will be talking to you about it. Social dance outings We had a really good time on Saturday with Rough Edges – a really good band doing great music (see some photos in the FB group). It was the first time some people there had social-danced a style they had learned properly. So a significant night. The next event will be a disco-themed night - www.facebook.com/events/774881707568148 - always great dance music. See you on the dance floor Clint CLASSES
Yes we do have classes tonight so first a reminder about classes this week:
SOCIAL OUTING We have another social outing this Saturday - https://www.facebook.com/events/472938455054400. It was a great outing with Blush and I expect Rough Edges to be just as good. Collin, Tony and I did a good job of keeping the ladies with us dancing, but we still had some other men hovering around trying tp pick up. So a few more men from Destine Dance would be appreciated - and you should have a good time. Let me know if you are coming so we have an idea of numbers. See you on the dance floor Clint First off, remember there are no classes tonight. Other classes this week:
Thanks to those who came to the trivia night and live music event on Saturday. We had a table of 13 people representing Destine Dance - still didn't have enough answers to win the trivia though. Part of the group Remember that it is the salsa and tango weekend at Gisborne this weekend. I will be there. And so will others. You can talk more about travelling in groups and such on the Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/DestineDance.
Speaking of social media, we will start collecting more content for online engagement. That means more photos and videos being taken within the studio. Of classes and student interviews and such. Let us know if you do not want to be in such content or if you are happy for a student interview should we do some. See you on the dance floor Clint |
