In this update:
AWARDS We will see the year out with an awards night and BBQ (thus there will be a cover charge for yourself and friends and family who attend). So if you are getting ready for this or thinking about it, then make sure you are focused – it’s really not that far away. More details to come. NORMALITY The last couple weeks had some unexpected holidays and cancellations. However, we are now back to normal. So looking forward to getting into dance like we have done before. A NEW ANGLE ON THE SUBSCRIPTION CLASSES I have recently started an online campaign to promote the 4 dance classes a week as a fun and social alternative to other physical activities like gym. If you know someone who is looking for a fun and social way to get active, then please let them know about this. HELP WITH WEDDING COUPLES We have not had many wedding couples for a while – due to COVID. But lately, we have had quite a few. One of the things we do at Destine Dance is to have couples to do their routine at the end of a group class. This is so they can practice performing in front of people and be more prepared on the day. Gurpal and I hope to each have a wedding couple ready for the end of tonight’s group class. So be ready to enjoy a performance or 2 and emulate a wedding party. A FELLOW STUDENT’S BUSINESS If any student has a business to promote, then we are always happy to do so. You can see them here - https://www.destinedance.com.au/partner-companies.html. I have just added Magic Kids Life who provide excursions and incursions for kids to see a play about bullying. Click the link above to read more and share with anyone you know who might want to use that service. AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PART TIME WORK Join the entertainment industry working as a performer. Silent Discos for Kids are currently looking for dynamic, energetic performers or teachers who are passionate about working with children in a fun environment, running events for primary school incursions and excursions. All training will be done online or in person if preferred. If you have an outgoing, engaging personality, work well in a team, are reliable, punctual have experience working with children, have a car and drivers license, a Working With Children’s Check/Blue Card, Covid digital certificate, are an Australian resident and love to dance, act or sing, then we would love to hear from you. Flexible hours (mainly weekend and school holidays). Perfect for Teachers/Student Teachers, Dance Instructors, Kids Entertainers, Sport Coaches, Performers... Join a dynamic fun team of facilitators in your state, running silent disco events, or running unique character parties with original stories, songs and programs for children in Australia. This is quite a full update this week, please take the time to read what’s here so you are aware of what’s going on. The key items are:
Social dance event coming up On October 2nd S&P Promotions will have Back Beat performing at The Dutch Club. Ideal dance music for R’n’R, blues, Jive and swing. I will be going. Let me know if you want to come along as a group so we can secure a table. Get more details here - https://www.facebook.com/events/563345972166181. It’s a great way to see the weekend out. Class options It is currently wedding season. That has made it hard to find times for private students who are either new to dance or wanting to come back. In the interim, you might want to explore the group class option. Ideal for steadily improving your ability, or maintaining it. And they are fun. Read more about your options for group classes here - https://www.destinedance.com.au/group-lessons.html - but you can drop in any time. Shoe Sale Thanks to Jenny for letting me know about this. Durrant shoes (our recommended supplier – you might have seen the vide we did with Yvonne some time back about dance shoes - https://www.facebook.com/DestineDance/videos/286742763318116) is having a sale with shoes going for as little as $60. You can contact them via their website for more details - https://www.durrantdanceshoes.com.au. A play you might be interested in One Riley Nottingham (creator & star of Nine's Metro Sexual), contacted me with an offer for Destine Dance people to get a discount for his new play – Manifesto – at the Melbourne Fringe Festival. A Musical Manifesto of unlikely friendships, dopamine addiction, working too hard and true love. By the end, he hopes you won't worry so much if you're feeling a little bit happy and a little bit sad at the same time. Discount Codes:
Photos from the awards Please see the photos included. These are from the awards night. We also have some videos. Thanks to Yamilla for taking them. She also got some videos. When you are in next, let me know if you would like to save any of them on to your own device. Classes this week
The classes this week are:
See you on the dance floor Clint It was a great week last week with the styles we did. Most nights were something new for people and everyone there gave a good go. The outcome – everyone got to experience something new and showed an excellent ability to learn dance and then use it. The current format is proving a lot of fun so I am very excited to see how it goes this week.
However, this week we will only have three nights. That’s because the venue will be used for another purpose on Thursday so no classes then. That’s part of being a member of the Elsternwick Park Sports Club community. The upside is the bar – people do enjoy those well portioned generous drinks that you can get from the bar. Classes this week are:
I am looking forward to seeing you on the dance floor this week Clint First off – thanks and congratulations to those who did their awards last week. It was a bigger night than some we have done in the past, but still smaller than what we have done. Check out the image for an indication of what the awards nights used to be like. That’s what we are aiming to get back to. This is a week of new experiences so make sure you are there for them – you might not get a chance to experience these dances for a while:
