There is a bit on this week so let's go through each event at a time.
 
Awards
These are on Wednesday. The schedule is as follows:

• 4:30pm - doors open and setup, 
• 5:00pm - students can practice, 
• 5:30pm - judge arrives, 
• 6:00pm - awards start (guests should get in about 5 minutes prior), 
• 7:00pm - group class with Kevin for students and guests, 
• 7:30pm - pizza (and the bar will be open), 
• 8:00pm - group class (part 2) with Kevin for students and guest, 
• 8:30pm - social dancing, 
• 9:30pm - finish

Group classes this week
As you know, this week we are running group classes with more esoteric styles given we have awards on Wednesday. This week the group classes are:

• Monday 7:30pm Street Latin - Zouk (a Brazilian dance that can be seen around Melbourne at times)
• Tuesday 6:30pm Latin American - Mambo (The American rhythm version of salsa)
• Thursday 6:30pm Ballroom - Viennese Waltz (the classic ballroom dance to spins hard)

Remember that next week we start a new cycle in Merengue, Jive, Lindy Hop and Tango (ballroom). So it is now a good time to get back into group classes - all the styles will be new and starting at beginner.
 
Tango this Sunday
Because we have just finished off 6 weeks in tango, now is a good time to go out as a group to experience some tango in a social context. Therefore, this Sunday, I will be going to one of the most welcoming events in Melbourne. Let me know if you wish to join me. Details here - https://tangoclub.melbourne/events/nft-project-milonga/
 
Private lessons available
We currently have a number of slots available for private lessons. So now let me know if you:

• want a few lessons to brush up on some skills for group class,
• want to get back into privates (even just to do something at the next awards),
• want to hone your skills in lead or follow for when you go out social dancing, or
• want to refresh or even learn some figures and styles you have an interest in.

We will then get you sorted.

• Wednesday 7:30pm Swing and R'n'R - West Coast Swing (the dance of improvisation)
• Thursday 6:30pm Ballroom - Waltz (the classic ballroom dance)

This is the last week of the current cycle.
 
Next week the awards are on, so the group classes will be different. Zouk on Monday, Mambo on Tuesday and Viennese waltz on Thursday.

Finally, please keep in mind the importance of staying consistent with your private lessons. If you cancel, then your instructor is left with no work. Thus, please keep these lessons consistent, so you can improve faster, and also give fair warning when you can't make one.

We have awards on 1 May 2024. If you are going for the awards, then make sure your details have been confirmed with your teacher and me. A separate email will be sent.

Because we lose one night of group classes that week, the subscriptions will be paused, but the classes will still run. Thus, if you are on a subscription, then you get a few free lessons. And if you do go to the awards, then the cost is, in effect, only $6 for a week of dance lessons/experiences. 
 
Also, on that week, the lessons will focus on some of the more esoteric dances:

• Monday: Zouk - it is a street Latin dance that can be found around Melbourne
• Tuesday: Mambo - sometimes treated as a street dance here; it is a ballroom dance in North America
• Thursday: Viennese waltz - it is a fun dance that does not need a full 6 weeks attention

Welcome to the end of daylight savings. The studio is now going to be a bit darker when you leave. I will do my best to recall putting on the outside lights for you.
