The most romantic of dances
While the name might suggest otherwise, Rumba has its origins in Cuba's bolero-son. This means that the rumba shares much with other dances from Cuba - salsa and cha cha for example. However, its tempo is much slower than that of the other Latin American dances. This allows it to take full advantage of the hip motion common to Cuban dances.
That means you can use much of what you have learned in other dances in Rumba, but you can also slow it down to really enjoy the movement. Moving slowly with another and enjoying the shared movement is what helps make rumba the romantic dance that it is. |
