The best balance of fun and style
Originating from Harlem New York USA, Lindy Hop is now established in the minds of many as the stereotype of swing dance. It was once even called 'Swing' by some. It has seen a resurgence in interest around the world since the 80's after it's decline from it's heyday of the 1920s and 1930s. Because it is the precursor to much of rock and roll many today have grown up with music that is much like that of swing music. This means Lindy Hop can be danced to many forms of modern popular music and the more traditional music of Lindy Hop 'feels' familiar to many.
Lindy Hop makes for an excellent dance because of its familiarity, but also because of its potential to exhibit action and energy. That being said, it is a dance of range and can also be danced smoothly. When you learn Lindy Hop, you learn a dance that you can use in many places. To keep the dance we teach authentic, Destine Dance remains in contact with the The Harlem Swing Dance Society As they themselves say - 'you can dance Lindy Hop to just about anything.' It's certainly one of the dances you want to learn. |
