QnA with Philippa
What got you started in dance?
I started dancing as a child and continued to dance throughout my youth as a way to handle my parents moving a lot. As I became older, I kept dancing because dance was a source of stability and focus for myself that continued into a career.
What do you like most about dance?
There are so many things I enjoy about teaching dance, but what I find most rewarding is seeing the confidence grow in my students as they start and maintain their own dance journeys.
What's most challenging about dance?
The most challenging dance classes I've taken have been ones that pushed me to move out of ways I've been accustomed. As someone who has danced her whole life, I have developed an enjoyment of trying new styles, not just of dance, but of ways of performing movement.
What advice do you have for students?
I find most people do not consider dance a language, but that is its closest similitude: it evolves over time, there are many dialects, and it takes time to learn & become fluent. Although some people may pick up languages/dance faster than others, nothing beats the fact that the more someone dives into its environment, the faster one excels in it.
What's your favourite quote about dance and why?
"May you always dance for you, your story, your love and your audience." -Philippa Eden (myself), because it keeps me focused on what matters.
