This is indeed the most disappointing blog post that has been written for this site. However, there will also be some good news for you.
As the heading says, the studio will be closing. This is partially a result of the costs of operating the business such as rent, it is also partly a result of less disposable income for many, and recent economic news probably also dissuades people from spending money on things like dance. But ultimately, partner dance is simply not part of the zeitgeist the way it once was (it's not longer as popular).
Take a look at the plot below of the frequency that people enquired online about different types of partner dance lessons in Australia over the past 10 years.
You can see that fewer and fewer people have been showing an interest in partner dances.
It was hoped that the New Year and Dancing With The Stars would bring about a boost in interest in dance and people coming to the studio. However, this has not eventuated. Therefore, given that the market is not what was thought/hoped/expected it would be, the decision was made that now is time to close the studio. Given the nature of the lease agreement, the studio can keep operating until someone else takes it over. Therefore, it is not known yet when the studio will actually close. That means two things:
In the face of these two, Destine Dance will change how it operates so that we can still offer you as much fun and interest and quality learning as we have to date and be prepared for the need to close. The following changes will take effect after the next awards night (16 March 2019):
Now for the good news. It is going to be cheaper for you to learn to dance than it will likely ever be again. Because we do not know when someone else will take over the lease, we feel we can't charge as much in the face of such uncertainty. So if you want to learn to dance and dance well at great prices, then right now is your chance. Take advantage of this while you can. Some other points. The next awards night will might be the last, but who knows really. If we have time and interest, then more can be organised. We are committed to making Destine Dance as fun for you as possible. You can still expect great service, and to learn a lot from us. When we do finally close, we will miss you. Dance just attracts great people and that was one of the reasons for starting Destine Dance: you get to spend time with great people. This includes the teachers who have worked here. Elise, Serena, Scott and Anita have been excellent and faultless teachers and added phenomenally to what Destine Dance offered. Because we have dropped our prices, we will not be able to advertise as much. Therefore, our marketing strategy will rely more on guerrilla tactics. You can help with this by:
We are sorry we let you down like this. We wanted to offer you a life of dance and be here for everyone who wanted to experience what dance had to offer. Because of this, we hope that this does not mean you will stop dancing. Given all the benefits of dance (from the physical to the mental to the social to the emotional) we hope you find other places you can dance when this studio closes. Talk to your dance teacher about the different options around. They will know a lot and can let you know about various options. See you on the dance floor
