YES! You can dance and keep social distance
Dance and social distancing for you now is the time to learn to dance
Are you a couple looking for something to do in times of social distancing? Or have you been meaning to learn to dance?
Then you are in luck. Surprisingly, until you think about it, couples' dance lessons are now ideal for you.
Let's talk about why.
In brief, dancing is ideal for you because:
The details on why learning to dance as a couple works well at this time
Minimal contact
In private lessons, it will be you and your partner. I am pretty sure that you contact a lot more at home than you will in a dance studio. Therefore, dance lessons will not increase your close contact with others.
Any contact with the instructor will be limited and only occur after everyone has cleaned their hands (we also wash our hands at the start of each less - and part way through if needed).
Sufficient space
Current rules demands that no inside events have more than 100 people and that there is 4m² per person. With 4 couple on the floor (the maximum number of lessons we would have at a time) there would be 12 people in the studio. Well below the 100. Also, the studio is 30m x 8m = 240m². That's 20m² per person (5 times more than what current rules demand). That's better than what you can expect in a cafe, restaurant or cinema.
Duration
One of the definitions of close contact is being in the same room as someone else for 2 hours. Even if you come early to your lesson and leave late, you will be here for well under 2 hours. Private dance lessons go for an hour, and you will avoid close contact while taking your dance lesson.
Contact with surfaces
Because dance is done standing up and you will be dancing for the lesson, you will not be in contact with other surfaces (like you would be at a shopping centre, supermarket, cinema, bar or restaurant).
You can see from the above how couples dance lessons would be ideal for you to break up the period of social distancing you are going through. And you will learn to dance! Contact us or fill out the form below to get more details on your options.

Let's talk about why.
In brief, dancing is ideal for you because:
- The only person you will be in contact with is your partner
- Dance studios are large and have only small number of students at a time - exceeding current rules
- A lesson goes only for an hour
- You will not be touching any other surfaces

Some caveats
- If you have a comparatively considerable chronological characteristic (you are over 60 years of age), then you might reconsider dance lessons (or any other activity for that matter).
- As you can imagine, we don't want you coming along if you feel ill - this is not really much to ask because no one wants to dance anyway when they feel ill.
- If you meet any of the criteria that indicate you might have COVID-19, then we ask you do not come to lessons. You can fill out this form from Austin Health here to see if you might have it. It's good to fill out just to have some more certainty too.
